There’s a lot going on in today’s sketch for Inktober Day 27. Today’s prompt was coat and we have a lot of subjects that I’ll explain for those in the unknown. We have skinwalkers, clash day, reflections; whole truck load of stuff here.
First if you’re not familiar, Skinkwalkers. Skinkwalkers come from Native American culture. “In Navajo culture, a skin-walker (Navajo: yee naaldlooshii) is a type of harmful witch who has the ability to turn into, possess, or disguise themselves as an animal. The term is never used for healers.” (wikipedia: skin-walker)
I am not trying to make fun of Native American culture. The skinwalker legend is quite terrifying and you may have even heard of it from the cartoon show Courage the Cowardly Dog. But part of me wondered in an alternate universe where the skinwalker was a common thing like putting clothes on. Would skinwalkers participate in Clash Day?
Which brings us to the next thing you may not know about, Clash Day. Clash day is a themed day tradition mostly associated with American Public Schools where students wear mismatched clothing items all day. Basically dress up in the most contrasting clothing items you have. Most of these type of themed days happen during spirit week which leads up to Homecoming in American High Schools but they now happen in lower grades too as well now. It’s also a day associated with the UK punk band The Clash. So that’s why I felt I needed to explain what clash day meant here in the US.
Okay now that we’ve explained the meanings in today’s sketch hopefully you get it. We have a young lady dressing up in different animal coats for clash day and becoming a mismatched skinwalker creature. I added the extra challenge of adding a mirror and doing a side reflection of the lady in her deer skin coat. Yes I know it should be a doe but a doe doesn’t have antlers and I wanted some bad ass antlers darn it! lol!
