Inktober 2019 Day 15: Legend

Inktober 2019 Day 15 Legend

Welcome to Sleepy Hollow ladies and gents. Hold onto your head cause you just might lose it. Because today we honor the Legend of Sleepy Hollow on this 15th day of Inktober.

This one was fun to draw and I took extra time today to try and get it as detailed as possible. Took my sweet time on the pencil sketch and even longer on the inking with the inkwell thingy majig. This is probably the most time I’ve ever spent staring at the position a horse’s foreleg goes when rising up from its back legs. I erased and redrew that left foreleg like ten times before I felt it was in an appropriate position. Never mind that the anatomy is probably way off still. But realism is not my forte and I think it’s the best horse I’ve ever done so far. The headless Horseman didn’t turn out so bad either. Adding coat tails and capes really saves you from figuring out leg placement at the top of a saddle. lol.

See you tomorrow for the start of the second half of Inktober day 16, Wild.

Inktober 2019 Day 14 Overgrown

Inktober 2019 Day 14 Overgrown

Release the Kraken! No seriously release the kraken it’s clearly outgrown its tank in this 14th day of inktober.

Today’s prompt is Overgrown and I didn’t want to do plants. So I did a fishtank with a kraken that looks like a plant. lol

Did today’s prompt with some speedball ink using my handy drawing nib….quill pen thingy I’m just going to stick with calling it an inkwell pen.

See you for tomorrows prompt, Legend.

Inktober 2019 Day 13: Ash

Inktober 2019 Day 13 Ash

We’ve reached unlucky 13 and it’s a dozy of an unlucky number for the subject in today’s drawing. I love H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds. It gave true horror of alien invasion and total annihilation.

Our subject is being hit by a mechanized beings heat ray and being burnt into ash as they try to surrender to the invading machine.

I had a lot of fun making this one. I did the base drawing with an HB pencil and did the outline again using a ink well pen. But this time I used some felt tip chiseled pens to add the burnt bones and singing skin lines. Then added some bright ray color using tombow markers. I decided to gray scale the everything else except the heat ray and fires set off by it. Then to throw in some extra ash I added some charcoal and smudged it to all around the poor subject being vaporized into ash.

See you tomorrow for day 14, Overgrown.

Inktober 2019 Day 12, Dragon

Inktober 2019 Day 12 Dragon

We come to day 12 of 31 days of Inktober. And it’s one of my new favorites. Dragons can be quite scary and I feel I did a good job with shading and detailing this one to make you extra terrified.

I again used the inkwell to outline and detail the dragon after drawing it out with an HB pencil. I am loving this old style of drawing in ink more and more everyday. But ink can be a lot more pricey than your standard pens so I still used markers to fill in the mouth and area around the dragon. Then to add some singe to the drawing I used  a charcoal pencil to add shadows and detail to the wrinkles and teeth of the dragon. Turned out really great.

See you tomorrow for day 13, ash. Seems appropriate that this comes after Dragon.

Inktober 2019 Day 11: Snow

Inktober 2019 Day 11 Snow

We come across a set of footprints on this 11th of 31 days of Inktober.

As the person walks across the cold snow covered ground we begin to see a transformation of some sort. Perhaps it has something to do with the full moon overhead. We do not know. All we see is discarded ripped clothing and deforming footprints.

Today’s drawing was made again with a pen and inkwell. I am in love with using it now. The control you get with it just feels so much nicer than with some of the felt tip markers and pens I’ve used. I’ll still use other types of media to draw but using an inkwell has become my new favorite.

See you tomorrow for day 12, Dragon.

Inktober Day 10: Pattern

Inktober 2019 Day 10 Pattern

It’s INKTOBER DAY 10!!! AND THERE’S A PATTERN….I have no idea where I was going with that. Today we get a monster with a clear pattern of destruction. Oh and it has a pattern down its back.

Just a quick one today. Busy day, but I wanted to be sure to get a drawing in everyday. Still love how it came out but if I had more hours in the day I would of tried more shading.

See you tomorrow for day 11, Snow.

Inktober Day 9: Swing

Inktober 2019 Day 9 Swing

Day 9 of 31 days of Inktober brings us our first non scary drawing. I thought about using torture since the topic is swinging. But it was such a nice day today and I figured even a monster would enjoy it.

So you get another ink well drawing. With a tentacle monster using its tentacles to swing itself from a tree during an autumn sunset. Really getting the hang of using an ink well pen. Might invest in trying some other color inks. Definitely getting a cleaner solution. I pricked my finger trying to clean the dry ink off the nib today.

See you tomorrow for Day 10, Pattern.

Inktober 2019 Day 8 Frail

Inktober 2019 Day 8 Frail

Welcome to the 8th day of 31 days of Inktober. Tonight we have a frail subject on display. Or is it subjects?

I tried adding multiple levels to this drawing. One you think of frail in this picture I assume you instantly go to the flower. Much like the rose in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the rose is the most fragile thing and must be protected. But what is the second level of frail in this drawing you say?

Well it’s the monsters. If you look one side is not like the other. The right is more sinister and seems to be going through a transformation of tendrils and claws growing everywhere. While the left side has a more (if you can call it that) basic non sinister form. The three creatures center stage are in the process of being half transformed by this sinister evil infecting everything.

I don’t know if this technically comes off as frail, perhaps it’s more corruption then frail. But I wanted to try adding a second level to a drawing tonight. And hey, I still had a lot of fun. Did this one with the ink well again and had a lot better control.

See you tomorrow for Day 9, Swing.

Inktober 2019 Day 7: Enchanted

Inktober 2019 Day 7 Enchanted

Evening Horror fans,

Today is the seventh day of Inktober, and today it’s all about enchantment, I’m sure there are plenty of good ones out there that make you feel all happy and good feeling. But it’s October and it’s time to be wicked, muhaahahaahaaa.

I am going with the classic of classics when it comes to enchantments. The good ol’ poisoned apple. Mine has a little bit different take on it though. Instead of dipping an apple in a poison, why not use an enchantment to turn a hoard of bugs and guts from the guts assortment warehouse into an apple. Don’t you just want to make a pie with that apple? hahahahaaaa

See you tomorrow for Day 8, Frail.

Inktober 2019 Day 6: Husky

Inktober 2019 Day 6 Husky

We arrive at day 6 of 31 Days of Inktober 2019. And today we hear a husky growl coming from the bottom of a deep dark well. Is it a husky or is it a monster? I’ll let your twisted imagination decide.

Today’s image was drawn on marker paper with a calligraphy tipped faber-castell ink pen.

Tune in tomorrow boys and gouls for day 7, enchanted. Oooo so many ideas possible for this one.
